we looked at the top 25 search results for each keyword sampled. Of those top 25 results, how many had the keyword in the title, what were their ranks, and how many didn’t, and what were their ranks?

The results were along the lines of what we’d assumed, but significant nonetheless.

As per MobileDevHQ report there were around 84% apps in the app-store which did not have keywords
in their titles. On the other hand, only 16% apps used keywords in the
app titles.

Thanks, Carl!

Using keywords in your app title is definitely a fragile strategy that lends itself to easily overdoing it. Recently, Apple began sending out emails to developers that began submitting titles longer than 64 characters asking them to modify. However, even 64 characters is quite lengthy!

Google Play, on the other hand, doesn’t quite need to police as hard, in my opinion, because they put a hard cap of 30 characters on title length. Because of that, after you get your brand in there, there’s not much room to play with.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, though. 🙂

I’m a little but worried of the future ranking algorithm on both leading app markets. Especially Google who usually penalize who uses keywords with that practice. Anyway, this is a great article and worth sharing!

🙂
